RE: New Topic - Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - L Verge - 01-24-2013
I would have thrown John Adams to the curb! Although his admonishment about sitting with her legs crossed in public is a good one. Those of my generation were preached at about this constantly, especially if sitting in front of an audience. This is made more imperative today with short skirts. And there's your comment of the day from Miss Manners -- and John Adams.

Which First Lady made the following comment about surfing?
"Surf-riding at Waikiki Beach is a great game...when you see a beautiful, slim, brown native, naked save for short swimming trunks, come gliding down a high, white breaker, poised like Mercury, erect on a single narrow plank - it looks delightfully exhilarating."

A First Lady said that? Wow, what's the office coming to? I don't suppose it was Mrs. Obama?
RE: New Topic - Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 01-29-2013
Good morning, Bill. Think earlier by many, many years.
RE: New Topic - Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - LincolnMan - 01-29-2013
Good morning! I knew it wasn't First Lady Obama. How about Eleanore Roosevelt? Just a guess, I have no idea.

Helen Taft.

Donna, you win! Kudos!
Helen Taft, Reflections of Full Years, 1914.

She certainly didn't have her husband in mind. He was a rather large man.

That's like a boat. RTL was very friendly with Taft. I wonder what the connection was?

Could be. Those photos were taken at the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vt. RTL was the President there for many years. That must have been on one of Taft's visits to RTL's home.

Which First Lady wrote:
"I think the doctors would especially like to keep one in bed. The love of money, is the root of all evil."

Hint #1: She was known for her white almond cake.
