RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 10-04-2014 07:53 AM Brilliant, Gene. In 2012 Jimmy Carter surpassed the previous record held by Herbert Hoover. You win free tickets to the Billy Carter Gas Station Museum in Plains, Georgia. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 10-08-2014 05:08 PM Roger, the photo makes me think of one of my favorite paintings by one of my favorite painters: http://www.edwardhopper.net/gas.jsp Here's another First Dog - can you name doggie and owner? Miss Beazley, a Scottish Terrier given to Laura Bush by her husband RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 10-08-2014 05:28 PM Kudos, Kees, that came quickly - and it's absolutely correct! And you weren't even taken in by my amateurish attempt to cheat y'all - this is the original photo: [attachment=1051] I didn't even have time to think of an appropriate prize, so you win my #1 dog song: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2mvdk_the-beatles-hey-bulldog_music RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - LincolnToddFan - 10-13-2014 10:10 PM Miss Beazley looks like President Roosevelt's Fala! Anyway, was it Miss Beazley who bit the reporter during the waning days of the Bush Presidency...or was that Barney? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Gene C - 10-13-2014 10:40 PM Barney.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQOG969hElQ Good boy, Barney, good boy! RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - LincolnToddFan - 10-14-2014 07:10 PM That reporter invaded Barney's personal space, and he paid the price. Laura Bush wrote the victim a lovely apology letter, but I guess Barney had had enough after 8 years of playing Mr. Nice Guy for those annoying people. Thanks Gene! RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 11-15-2014 10:54 AM Who is this gentleman? [attachment=1116] Hint #1: I guess this will be a research question. Hint #2: One road to Rome is to thoroughly research one of the latest threads. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - L Verge - 11-15-2014 01:31 PM The gentleman is a Virginian, Joseph Jenkins Roberts, who became the first President of Liberia, an African colony for freed American slaves. Thanks for recommending the great article on Slavery from wiki, Eva. I found the answer there. It also reminded me of an assignment that I used to give my 8th graders when we began studying the issue of slavery in America. They had to resort to encyclopedias and (hopefully) other reference books in those days, but I wanted them to understand that slavery had been and still was/is a universal problem - not just an American one. I urge more of you to read the article. And, I'm putting forth a slight political viewpoint, but pay close attention to the history of slavery within Muslim civilizations... RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 11-15-2014 03:32 PM Well done, Laurie! Actually I was hoping the question would motivate folks to read the article! RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 11-16-2014 09:09 AM Excellent guess, Eva, but it is not she. |
