RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 09-29-2014 02:57 PM You are getting closer... RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 09-29-2014 03:09 PM R. B. Hayes? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - L Verge - 09-29-2014 03:17 PM That's my guess too, but did Hayes have children or grandchildren around to pester that dog? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 09-29-2014 03:18 PM Correct, Eva and Laurie! That is Rutherford B. Hayes' son, Scott. Eva and Laurie, do you like lemonade? I hope so because, in honor of Mrs. Hayes, you both have won a year's supply of free lemonade! http://www.toledoblade.com/Culture/2009/09/06/Presidential-Pets-Hayes-Center-showcases-companions-who-called-the-White-House-home.html RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - L Verge - 09-29-2014 05:41 PM Love lemonade. Just call me Lemonade Laurie! I noticed that the Toledo Blade article quoted extensively Bill Bushong, the curator of the White House Historical Association. He was our speaker last September at the Surratt Society's fall dinner and gave a very good talk on Mr. Lincoln's Neighborhood around the White House. Now that I see he's an authority on Presidential pets, I think I see another speaking invitation coming on. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 09-30-2014 06:19 PM The White House has seen many unusual pet residents. One First Lady kept these animal friends: [attachment=1003] ...and even had their special diet provided. Who? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 10-01-2014 04:04 AM I know the Coolidges had a large number of pets, so I will guess Grace Coolidge. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 10-01-2014 04:29 AM A very logical guess, Roger, but it was an earlier First Lady. Her husband once got another unusual pet - a very big-mouthed one! RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 10-01-2014 08:51 AM Hint #1: The First Lady's pets were silkworms feasted on mulberry leaves. Hint #2: Her husband's pet was an alligator. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - L Verge - 10-01-2014 09:20 AM John Quincy Adams? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 10-01-2014 09:36 AM Excellent, Laurie! http://books.google.de/books?id=z2jlRq_0gOMC&lpg=PA516&ots=fyXDEP2suS&dq=quincy+adams+alligator&pg=PA516&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false You win an Adams-family-pet of your choice. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - L Verge - 10-01-2014 12:54 PM I miss having pets desperately, but I'm going to pass -- they require too much care from me now. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Gene C - 10-01-2014 03:03 PM We're really not that much trouble. I even help lick the dishes clean. I wash, you dry. Fido RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 10-04-2014 04:44 AM Which President has the record for living the longest as an ex-President?
