Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I plan on posting the sketch of the alley I drew based on the description during one of the talks at the Surratt Conference on my Twitter page later this evening. No word yet from the Park Service on that appointment to go through the archives, I'll give them a week.

I don't know the origin of the map of Batiste Alley in "The Evidence", but it does not show a exit onto 9th St.

I've been trying to find a similar source that shows any alleyway onto 9th. So far, no luck. Would love to see that pamphlet referred to by Bishop and its primary source material.

I'm not doubting the gate, but Booth would have been well aware of it and made arrangements to leave it open OR go to the 9th Street exit. We just need proof that there was an exit directly to 9th.

I have one of my suspicions about this exit, however. It would have brought Booth and his pretty little mare out closer to the front of Ford's Theatre at about the time chaos began. Wouldn't he want to avoid that?
