RE: Springfield Tour - LincolnMan - 06-19-2013 06:10 PM Great news! Please other Forum members consider coming! RE: Springfield Tour - LincolnMan - 06-21-2013 03:59 PM I just made reservations! RE: Springfield Tour - Rob Wick - 06-21-2013 05:58 PM Looks like me and the Mrs. will be there as well, at least if present plans hold together. Best Rob RE: Springfield Tour - LincolnMan - 06-21-2013 07:04 PM Outstanding! RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 06-24-2013 04:58 PM Joe Di Cola informed me that when he made his reservation today he was able to get them to add a AAA discount, which lowered his rate to $101.99 RE: Springfield Tour - LincolnMan - 07-29-2013 09:54 PM Any others joining us? RE: Springfield Tour - Joe Di Cola - 08-28-2013 12:29 PM Gene and I are looking forward to the Springfield tour in October, and are happy that some of you from the site can join in. If others of you can join us, please let us know. One of the seldom-included sites we will visit is the Old Concord Cemetery, situated in the middle of a farm field (an adventure to get to in itself), and the original burial site of Anne Rutledge (as far as I am concerned, she is still there!), her brother David, John "Jack" Armstrong, his father (a Revolutionary War veteran), other Rutledges, and more of the people who befriended Lincoln and contributed to his development into the person he became. ![]() Old Concord Cemetery

Thanks, Roger, for help posting the photo I took in July, 2012. Joe RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 08-28-2013 03:50 PM Great photo Joe! Most of us plan on arriving in Springfield, Thursday afternoon, Oct 10, and starting early Friday morning to start our tour. A few of us are staying at the President Abraham Lincoln Motel http://www.expedia.com/Springfield-Hotels-President-Abraham-Lincoln-Hotel.h5491.Hotel-Information and the Hilton is right across the street, there are lots of other nice places to stay. Even if you've been to Springfield before, this will be a unique experience. So far, we have a small group of 9, there is room for more. RE: Springfield Tour - Rob Wick - 08-28-2013 06:35 PM As a child in Illinois it was pretty much a state law that we had to visit the Springfield sites (anyone remember when they were called the Lincoln Shrines?). I'm looking forward to being there although Friday morning I'm going to run away and take advantage of my location to do some research on my book at the Lincoln Presidential Library. My wife will represent me in the morning. However, I will join the group when it goes to New Salem. It's been nearly 40 years since I've been there. Oh, and anyone who comes can also wish me a happy 50th birthday (which actually will be the week before on Oct. 1). Anyone looking to get me a present my size is $20s and $50s. ![]() Seriously, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who is planning to attend. I can't think of any better way to spend my birthday and to make the year I've had so far much better. RE: Springfield Tour - Joe Di Cola - 08-29-2013 09:30 AM After dinner Friday evening, we plan to take a stroll through the Lincoln neighborhood. It takes on a magical aura when the lights are on, and you almost expect to see the Lincolns walk out the front door to take a stroll with you. How about it? Are there any others out there who can join us? ![]() (08-29-2013 09:30 AM)Joe Di Cola Wrote: After dinner Friday evening, we plan to take a stroll through the Lincoln neighborhood. RE: Springfield Tour - Joe Di Cola - 09-05-2013 09:45 AM Gene and I hope more of you can join us in Springfield in October. You will get to see Lincoln's bedroom wallpaper and, after seeing it, begin to understand why he was perhaps so melancholy! Join us if you can. RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 09-06-2013 10:07 AM It is even more striking when you see it up on all four walls. ![]() Due to our great negotiating skills, we are able to include the following at no additional cost to the normal museum admission fee: Interesting exhibit at the Lincoln Museum about Weapons and Medicine of the Civil War. http://www.illinois.gov/alplm/museum/visit/Pages/Temp_Exhibits.aspx Come join us, we will have a great time.
