Yes. In 1799 Abigail Adams wrote a letter to her friend, Elizabeth Shaw Peabody. She included the above-mentioned-quote in the letter.

She was from the guerilla war area of Missouri, where Quantrill's raiders and Jesse James operated.

Was it Theodore Roosevelt?

RE: New Topic - Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Bill Richter - 01-16-2013 07:36 AM

US Grant

RE: New Topic - Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Rob Wick - 01-16-2013 07:51 AM

Bill got it. It was Grant. I would have said Teddy Roosevelt myself, but Grant signed the legislation in 1872 that made Yellowstone the first.

Bill wins a free pass to agree with me on the topic of his choice with no comment from me. Smile

It was said that this dog was known for his habit of lying motionless for hours with one eye closed and the other one open. Which president owned the dog?

Hint #1: This sketch of the president's dog first appeared in Frank Leslie's newspaper.

Hint #2: In most presidential ratings' polls I've seen this president is usually rated quite low.
