Grant made a deal to have his memoirs published by as big a"rock star" of his time, Mark Twain.

Grant was the rock star, Twain was the promoter, ala Bill Graham!!

I heard once that, in his day, Grant was the most photographed person in history. Don't remember the source. I know he traveled all over the world after the war.

I heard that there was supposed to be a book coming out of all the known pictures taken of Grant
No sign of it yet

Hi Paul. The author is the same gentleman who owns the "debated" Eddie Lincoln photo that we've discussed in another thread. I am looking forward to his book.

Sounds great!

I believe the Douglas Freeman biography of Lee is thought to be the definitive work. I am reading one now by Maurice. I haven't finished it yet.

Thanks, Mark. I came across this book as well, Reading the Man: A Portrait of Robert E. Lee Through His Private Letters by Elizabeth Brown Pryor. The reviews are all over the place. Have you read it?

I have not. It sounds good. I always like to read what the actual person wrote. To me, its the best insight to personalities. This Maurice book was published in 1924 I think and he references some letters to his family.

Wow, that book you referenced sells for $8 on Amazon, twice that for the Kindle version. So many books, so little time.

I really like the review of that book written by the park Ranger at Arlington. Park Rangers will usually point you in the right direction.

Here is a PBS interview with Park Ranger, Matt Penrod, about Lee.
