RE: Extra Credit Questions - L Verge - 08-03-2015 05:04 PM May I ask that it be an abstract sculpture so that no one recognizes me? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-03-2015 05:11 PM You are allowed requests, but the Friends of Fred Smith make the final decision. RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-29-2015 06:35 AM What is the connection between Tad Lincoln and something called the Holiday Budget? I believe this was a school newspaper he either edited or produced. He attended the Brown School in Chicago, which was a refuge just outside the perimeter of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-29-2015 10:35 AM I believe this is correct, and there was only one issue published. RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-29-2015 12:39 PM Kudos, Blaine and Eva. You are both correct. Tad was co-editor along with another lad named Sterling P. Rounds, Jr. I believe the Chicago History Museum has a copy. You both win free lifetime subscriptions to the Brown School Holiday Budget. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Anita - 08-29-2015 03:49 PM What relic of Tad's did Mrs. Keckley say she owned? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-29-2015 04:18 PM Tad's soldier doll named Jack who was pardoned by President Lincoln? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Anita - 08-29-2015 04:26 PM Roger, that would be really special but it's not the one Keckley owned. Here's a hint. It's an object that didn't belong to Tad but Tad used to assist his father. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-29-2015 08:19 PM An inkwell? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Anita - 08-30-2015 10:44 AM Good guess Eva but it's not an inkwell. One last hint. This object was used the Tuesday night after the fall of Richmond. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-30-2015 11:04 AM Although Noah Brooks claimed he held the lamp to provide light at Lincoln's April 11 speech, I believe I also read Tad did. This lamp perhaps? RE: Extra Credit Questions - L Verge - 08-30-2015 12:41 PM I think Eva's right. Somehow I remember reading about this when the Surratt Society was raising money to mark Mrs. Keckly's grave. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Jim Page - 08-30-2015 12:47 PM I don't think Tad held the lamp; I think he picked up the sheets of paper his father dropped as he gave his speech. --Jim RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-30-2015 01:08 PM As I recall there was a conflict of opinion on this. Noah Brooks said he held the light as Tad picked up the pages from the speech as his father dropped them; Mrs. Keckly said Tad held the light. I thought it was a candle. |
