Right, Laurie - it's Ward Hill Lamon.

You win, Roger. And I just realized that I did not pose that as a question. I would have been booted off of Jeopardy.

What is this person's name?

Would the entire original photo show more persons? Looks civilian and innocent. I realize the background is "wrong", but is he depicted in one of the many deathbed photos?

"Would the entire original photo show more persons?"

I do not know. This is the only photo I have of this person. I do not know if it were cropped out of a larger photo or not.

"I realize the background is "wrong", but is he depicted in one of the many deathbed photos?"

You are on the right track. Now what is his name?

Julius Ulke?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 03-26-2018

Was my thinking, too.

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 03-26-2018

Kudos, Eva and Gene!! Yes, it is Julius Ulke - the man who took this photo:

Who is this man?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 03-30-2018

Doctor or clergy?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 03-30-2018

Nope, Eva, he was neither a doctor or clergyman.

RE: Assassination Trivia - L Verge - 03-30-2018

But he was an enemy to historical fact. I believe that is Mr. Finis Bates, whose story created one of the legends that has irritated me for lo these many years - The Escape and Suicide of John Wilkes Booth.

P.S. Also the grandfather of actress Kathy Bates, and I just learned recently that Kathy's great-great-grandfather was doctor to President Andrew Jackson.

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 03-30-2018

Very good, Laurie. You are correct. It is Finis Bates.

RE: Assassination Trivia - L Verge - 04-05-2018

Photo is familiar, and I'm tempted to say that it was an actor of the day, but...

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 04-05-2018

Good eyes, Laurie. You are on the right track.
