RE: Mary Lincoln Demystified
I bought the book based on the recommendations seen here. Finished it in about three days; a thoroughly enjoyable read. I learned much. The Q&A format is an excellent one for the subject (it is not a biography) and the chapters are divided based on years covered or subject matter so one does not have to read each chapter consecutively, but I did. Mary was a complex and enigmatic person of her times and this clearly comes through. Many of the unflattering adjectives attributed to her prove true, however, Mary was also a very loving, kind, and caring person upon whom history is perhaps too harsh. Other stories of her antics have been debunked. This is a must read for those who want to get to know the real Mary Lincoln.

RE: Mary Lincoln Demystified
I am pleased to announce that MARY LINCOLN DEMYSTIFIED has won an award from the Illinois State Historical Society. Here is their review:
Mary Lincoln Demystified: Frequently Asked Questions about Abraham’s Wife, by Donna D. McCreary. Superior Achievement. “Ms. McCreary holds a unique perspective as a Mary Lincoln performer, interpreter, and researcher. The premise of this book is a good one and McCreary thoroughly included and organized frequently-asked questions about one of America’s most well-known first ladies.” “McCreary’s book contains information not found elsewhere… and a uniquely thorough timeline. While sympathetic to the woman she portrayed for two decades, McCreary examines both sides of controversial issues and presents the facts with her trademark style and flair. This book will be a very good reference for quite a long time.” |

RE: Mary Lincoln Demystified
Donna, made a wonderful presentation of her new book.
Through the question and answers following, her love, passion, and knowledge on the subject of Mary Lincoln's life came shinning through. She took the time to carefully and thoughtfully answer each question. I wish we had more time to spend with her. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

It would be wonderful if more could attend the memorial events for Mary Lincoln held in July. We always have a wonderful time while we are learning more about Mary. I am not sure who the speakers will be for 2024, but I am sure the topics will be interesting. If you are planning to trip south sometime this fall, let me know. I would love to meet somewhere to discuss the Lincolns. |
