Thanks! I had to look in Donald for actresses that Lincoln had admired.

RE: Who is this person?
Judge Thomas C. Browne of the Illinois Supreme Court? He attended the Lincolns' wedding in 1842. He was a blunt man not accustomed to weddings. As Abraham was putting the wedding ring on Mary's hand and repeating the words, "With this ring I thee endow with all my goods, chattels, lands, and tenements," Browne impatiently blurted out, "God Almighty, Lincoln, the statute fixes all that."

RE: Who is this person?
Is there some direct Lincoln connection? (Did they meet, correspond, admire "each" other resp. unidirectionally?)

RE: Who is this person?
No, sorry Roger (but you're giving me lots of names that will keep me busy researching).

#1 He started in law but later became involved in financial issues.

#2 He had a theory about slavery

#3 He was in line to be President, but a technicality (too young) would have prevented it.

#4 He committed a crime.

#5 He was pardoned.

#6 He was president for a short time (sorry ... that's a trick hint)

#7 No friend of Lincoln

And that "theory" of his about slavery ? I dont think he ever said specifically what it was ... but I am certain that he would have been forced to admit that it was wrong.
