Dali painting
I recently took a road trip through Florida and while my plan to camp on the Dry Tortugas fell through (all booked but YES, you can do that), I DID have a chance to visit the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg where "Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea which at a distance of 20 meters is transformed into the portrait of Abraham Lincoln" resides.
They have created a wonderful 20 meters slot through the room so hat you can gaze at it unobstructed from afar. It was totally worth the admission - I did not see much else beyond the gardens. If you are ever in the area - make sure to visit - it's amazing! Also - if you are ever traveling that area and in need of a Lincoln book fix...check out Gene's bookstore on Sanibel...they have THREE (3) shelves of Lincoln books alone! Never expected that in that area! In case of emergency, Lincoln and children first. |

RE: Dali painting
That is wonderful, Angela! I remember that Eva visited the Dalí Museum also. That was in 2014. Vicki and I have never been there.

Perfect! I WAS going to ask Eva if she stopped there! So glad we both saw it!

RE: Dali painting
Hi Angela - what a surprise you are over there! Awesome! As for Dry Tortugas, did you try to be the first in the morning to possibly get a seat of someone who booked but didn't show up? That's how I got there although I missed to book, in the main season. (And even without camping it would have been well worth the trip - also to check out another great, unusual bookstore...)
PS: My first visit to the Dalí-Museum was in 1990, and I was absolutely looking forward to see it - I had been interested in the matter since about grade 10. |

RE: Dali painting
Maybe if I got to Sarasota for Spring Training I should check this out. Thanks for sharing Angela. I never appreciated art but now I do. Guess I shouldn't have complained when my mom dragged me to see David-Apollo at the National Gallery of Art at Christmas Break during my Sophomore year.

RE: Dali painting
Thomas, you should insist in your mom dragging you to see David at his original location - and then there's sufficient opportunity to indulge in more art (Florence alone has 72 museums and Italy the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world.) And when finished you might like https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2vzXPBAhL48
PS: When in Sarasota, please don't miss the Classic Car Museum and the Ringling Museums (Ringling Museum of Art and Ringling Circus Museum)! PPS: ...and this one in DC is just great, too: http://www.phillipscollection.org/collec...collection And as for horses and horse racing, you should check out Henri Toulouse-Lautrec's work (there's more than the link provides). http://www.theequinest.com/henri-toulouse-lautrec/ |

It's a statue Michelangelo never finished and nobody is sure whether it's David or Apollo. As for the Ringling Museums, I'll see them even though I can't join the circus. This is the sculpture I spent an hour of Christmas Break reluctantly looking at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_(Michelangelo) Thomas Kearney, Professional Photobomber. |

RE: Dali painting
Thanks, Thomas, yes, I was aware (and am sorry I was too lazy to type the full name as I thought it clear I was referring to your post). In Florence you could see both however - David Apollo at the Palazzo del Bargello, and "mere" David at the Galleria dell’Accademia. Not sure there's much horse racing in Italy...

When do you ship off for college? Eva - the spectacles of Florence were magnificent to me. I loved my brief two-day stay in the city, except for the brown water that came out of the faucets in our bathroom and my unending desire for ice cubes in my drinks during 90-degree weather. At least in Rome, the entrepreneurs kept watermelon wagons out until midnight - not cold watermelon, but juice enough to save a person. |
