Changing the lyrics to Maryland State Song
There is a movement polictically to have the lyrics changed or the song replaced totally. I read about it at Fox News. Roger, can you post the link?

RE: Changing the lyrics to Maryland State Song
I remember this debate going on since at least the Civil Rights upheavals of the 1950s and 60s. Some of us used to chuckle because very few Marylanders (let alone residents of other states) could even tell you what the first stanza of Maryland, My Maryland says -- let alone the fact that there so many verses to the entire thing. Most didn't/still don't know the history of the song.
The same holds true today. It is not a New York, New York kinda song! It seems to me that the Maryland State Song only gets pulled out by politicians at times of controversy or elections. |

I think the polictically correct crowd are striking "while the iron is hot"- considering the recent wave to "remove the old landmarks."

RE: Changing the lyrics to Maryland State Song
I know where they can stick their hot iron.
They probably don't like Christmas either https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU4AK_0Pn-U Oops, wrong video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IYjvCv8g2E I like the reverence expressed by the singer in this song. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

I think you're right, Bill, but a great deal of this "politically correct" stuff is an affront to the study of history (in general, not just U.S. history) and culture. Likewise, it seems to me that some of those who espouse it the loudest don't realize that just the term has become somewhat of a joke in our society. |
