Let me say this. I think you probably have more moral fiber and respect for right and wrong than at least two of the people currently pursuing the position.
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

It does seem that way, however, I just wonder if Trump is smart enough to know that his campaign style is much like Andrew Jackson? I also wonder if he knows who Andrew Jackson is. They are now comparing him to George Wallace, the ex-Governor of Alabama during the 60's. He does seem very similar. I am still trying to get past his comments about not knowing who David Duke is. Do you agree? Well, not yet, anyway. You can google and read about his ties to organized crime and the mob, relative to the unions and the gambling casino's. I might not put it past him, especially when you see poor Chris Christie standing behind him and supporting him. You just have to wonder why????? |

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

CNN has been running a series on the elections of American Presidents. Has anyone watched the show? It is really an important insight. The series on Lincoln and Douglas was especially interesting, however, I am surprised that there hasn't been more conversation here about the series.

RE: What would Lincoln say about the present day elections for President for 2016?
The Jackson vs. Adams fight was acrimonious.
"Andrew Jackson won redemption four years later in an election that was characterized to an unusual degree by negative personal attacks. Jackson and his wife were accused of adultery on the basis that Rachel had not been legally divorced from her first husband when she married Jackson. Shortly after his victory in 1828, the shy and pious Rachel died at the Hermitage; Jackson apparently believed the negative attacks had hastened her death." http://www.history.com/topics/us-preside...ew-jackson Knowing how difficult the campaign would be on his wife, perhaps it would have been better if Jackson has not run for the presidency in 1828 just like it would have been better if Seward had left Washington after Powell's attack so that his daughter Fanny could have gotten away from the horrible memories in the Old Clubhouse which probably hastened her death at age 21 the following year. |

this interesting article about past elections from Yahoo news.
It appears to be reasonably accurate, Hard for me to tell, I've become a bit cynical about much of the press. https://www.yahoo.com/news/7-ways-donald...14102.html So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

Getting back to the question posed by the title of this thread: would'nt Lincoln have expected a more dignified election season?

I think that, with regard to the present day elections for President for 2016, Lincoln would probably let loose with a hearty laugh, and not comment at all.
