RE: The Lincoln Chair- I was there!
Since I made the last post about the stains on the chair- three people have commented to me in conversation about Lincoln's blood being on it. They all seemed a bit taken aback when informed that there is no blood on it. Myths die hard- or maybe not at all...

For some reason, the public needs blood and gore in order to pay attention to history. I have had to remind people that Lincoln's head slumped to his chest upon contact with the bullet, and within a short period of time, the men removed him to the floor for treatment. There is an excellent chance that Lincoln's head never touched the back of the rocker once he slumped forward. And, upon examination, the doctors had to remove clotting in order to get any response from the President. It certainly was not a Kennedy-type wound in which blood would have been everywhere. |

Well stated Laurie. As we all know, the first attending doctor to Lincoln didn't even know where the wound was or if he was shot or stabbed with a knife.
