Commemorating Lincoln's Second Inaugural - 150th Anniversary
Many thanks to Laurie for sending these images from the latest Lincolnian. The Lincoln Group of the District of Columbia is the oldest such group in the USA. These two images were at the front of its latest newsletter.

I love the Second Inaugural. I've always found it more moving even than the Gettysburg Address. There will be a special program on C-span 3 this weekend, and I plan to record it on my DVR.

Today I went to the second inauguration commemoration at the Lincoln Memorial. I also got to meet "American Brutus" author Michael Kaufman. While I didn't have my phone out to take a selfie with him I was able to get some pictures of the ceremony. Here is the link to my Flickr page.

from the Washington Post "The Lincoln address on display at the Library of Congress was delivered 150 years ago, on March 4, 1965, just a month before Lincoln’s assassination,..." and "Its famous closing line was, “With malice toward none, with charity for all.” Not quite... they left something out... "With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan—to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves, and with all nations." (and this from a reporter/editor who has worked for the Wahsington Post for 27 years) So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

I watched it on http://www.c-span.org/video/?323898-1/pr...nniversary Laurie, there didn't seem to be as much of a crowd as I would expect. Maybe it was the cold weather. What do you think Thomas? I thought Michael Krebs gave a great performance. |
