If you haven't been on Dave Taylor's great blog, BoothieBarn.com, recently, please take time to visit his latest postings about the movements of the 16th NY Cavalry as they tracked down Booth and Herold. Great text, but even greater photos that Dave took at New Year's of sites along the troops' trail from Belle Plain to Garrett's farm.

I especially loved the photos of the magnificent Belle Grove mansion at what used to be Port Conway on the Rappahannock. The home is now a beautiful Bed and Breakfast, run by the Darnell family who love it dearly and are taking good care of it. I had the privilege of having a tour of the home about 35 years ago under a previous owner. It was lovely then, but needed some cosmetic work. I am delighted to see from Dave's photos that the cosmetics have been meticulously applied!

I second Laurie. Dave, you did an outstanding job.

Great job, Dave. I especially like the photo of the Bakers & Conger. Good photo for a period clothing study and nice hat Conger is holding. I have one very much like it. He has obviously worn it quite a lot.

Thank you for the support all. For the past 3 weeks, KateH has been staying with me and we have travelled here, there and everywhere visiting so many places relating to the assassination.

Belle Grove was truly beautiful and I cannot recommend more highly a stay at the bed and breakfast. On New Year's Eve, Kate and I took part in their first ever Murder Mystery Dinner. You can see a short video they made which features Kate as Dakota Green, a college student who was being blackmailed by the murder victim for insurance fraud, and me as Parker Tankus, lead guitarist for the band Armpit Anguish. That "animated" photo of L. C. Baker, Luther B.Baker and Everett Conger is actually a "contrived" one. L. C. Baker was in New York when Stanton sent a telegraph requesting his assistance in finding Booth. L. C. Baker sent a telegram back advising to assign his cousin Luther B. Baker and Everett Conger to head a troop to go to Port Royal where he thought Booth was. The 16th New York was assigned to go with Luther B. Baker and Everett Conger. This famous photo was actually taken well after Booth, and Herold, were captured.

I tip my hat to "Young Dave". He moved from the Land of Lincoln and planted himself right in the middle of L.A. ...........Lincoln Assassinationland. He has taken the opportunities to visit as many sites as he can, documents them by word and camera, and most importantly, he shares them!

I have to give a special shout out to Jim Garrett for being a such wonderful guide to all the Atzerodt sites up in Montgomery County. Due to him I was able to add a whole bunch of George related sites to my Lincoln assassination map.

By the way, here is Kate, Jim, and I at Clopper Mill, where George Atzerodt spent the night of April 15th on his way to his cousin, Hartman Richter's, home. The old mill is in ruins now, but Jim and I still decided to see what sleeping here would have been like.

I hope everyone notices that it's the girl standing guard while the guys sleep it off...

Clopper Mill's ruins are holding up well. It seems not to have changed in the 35 or so years since I last saw it. I can't say the same for the Atzerodt/Richters' part of Montgomery County - practically one big metropolis now.
