Mourning Lincoln
This is one I'm eager to read. I think 2015 is going to be a terrible year for my wallet.

RE: Mourning Lincoln
Double d**n! First because my wallet too will take another hit and second because this was a book premise I had been thinking about for a while and had just started to commit my outline to paper. I am always too late and now a dollar short in more than one way! But it does sound like a good book.

RE: Mourning Lincoln
Thanks Susan. When my daughter and grandchildren ask what I'd like for Xmas, I always reply "Lincoln books". This is now on on the list.

RE: Mourning Lincoln
Looks great!
Our friend, Harold Holzer has also written a new book on what looks like a very similar, great topic! Bound to be excellent! http://www.amazon.com/President-Lincoln-...31SY08SCYW "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

RE: Mourning Lincoln
Harold Holzer has also written a book I have recommended to younger readers. It's called The President IS SHOT! The book is well-illustrated and tells the story in 180 pages. The book would be great for middle schoolers or even a little younger.

RE: Mourning Lincoln
Let us know how you like that Eva, I bought a similiar book last year, and I just haven't been able to work my way through my stack of books to read it yet.
It wasn't on my priority list, but I was able able to get it a new sofbound copy at a real bargain. It is nicely illustrated. http://www.amazon.com/Lincoln-Image-ABRA...coln+image I realy enjoy the few books by Harold Holzer that I've read. I agree with Susan, 2015 is going to be a fun year for book buying, I've already started (but I like finding some of the older books) But be patient, there will be some real bargains out there if you are vigilent. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

(12-13-2014 08:42 AM)Eva Elisabeth Wrote: This is waiting in my basement for its unwrapping on Xmas Eve: Eva, This should be an interesting book. Harold spoke about this topic at this year's Lincoln Forum Symposium (yes, yes I know I need to get back to that thread and do a summary of those talks - I will when a get a chance to dedicate a little more time ) and it sounded very interesting. I agree with Gene, I too have thoroughly enjoyed Harold's books (the ones I have read of his rather large catalog). Moreover, Harold is a great guy. Very approachable and easy to talk to. Here is a link to an interview with Harold about this book. http://www.c-span.org/video/?321589-1/qa-harold-holzer The book is in my to read stack but judging from the size of the stack at may be a while before I get to it. |
