RE: Veterans Day
I second that emotion! Just read a short piece about the last four members of Doolittle's Raiders holding their last reunion. Only three were able to attend, but a son represented the fourth who is in ill health. All, of course, are in their nineties and have decided it is time to close down the tradition.

They were in Dayton on a previous occasion (as were the remaining Tuskegee Airmen) and those were wonderful events to attend at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. |

RE: Veterans Day
I whole-heartedly agree!
The other night, we had a female disabled veteran and her service dog come into the shop. She said that she had been wounded in Afghanistan and was having trouble adjusting. Her service dog, a black lab, was helping her cope. Both she and the dog were more than welcome and before she left, myself and other employees shook her hand and thanked her for her service. She was very touched by this - "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

RE: Veterans Day
I received an email about this today:
Introducing the Honor Wall
Unveiled this week in honor of Veterans Day, the Fold3 Honor Wall pays tribute to millions of men and women who served our nation, from colonial days to the present. We invite you to visit the Honor Wall and help us pay tribute to America's veterans by sharing your own memories, stories, and photos of a loved one. Whether you have family or friends serving now, or have ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War or other conflicts in between, join us in commemorating them. With your help, the Honor Wall will keep their stories alive. CLICK HERE |

RE: Veterans Day
Happy Veteran's Day. Happy 238th Birthday Marines.
Great Link Roger. I found my Great Grandpa's Veteran's Affairs records from when he served in the Army during WWI and my Grandpa's WWII records from a muster roll while serving aboard the USS Jouett from the Navy. A little off subject but, did Tom Cruise really just compare his job in Hollywood to Active Service Men and Women fighting in Afghanistan? Or was he taken completely out of context? I have been receiving a lot of crazy remarks today via Facebook and text. Thank you all who have served and supported those men and women in uniform. RE: Veterans Day
Thank you for this, Roger!
I found my dad's name on the Wall of Honor; he served with the 82nd Airborne Division in WWII -- and I added my GG grandfather who served in Company K, 12th Virginia, CSA - Honoring ALL veterans of all wars - "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

RE: Veterans Day
Happy Veteran's Day to all. In about an hour, I will be going to my childrens' school. The school does a Veteran's Day sing every year to honor those who have served. The Children sing the Star Spangled Banner along with the Hymms of each branch of service.

RE: Veterans Day
Here's your history quiz for the day: What was the original name for Veterans Day? When was the name changed? What is the symbolism attached to the date on which it is celebrated?

RE: Veterans Day
When I was in grade school I think it was called Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I. I do not recall when the name was changed.
