The Bully Pulpit
Tuesday will see the release of Doris Kearns Goodwin's newest book, The Bully Pulpit. I had an opportunity to sneak a peek at it over the weekend, and it's one that definitely will be going home with me. Not only does Goodwin write about the split between William Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt, but the subtitle is Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism. Tarbell is featured prodigiously in this work along with her colleagues, Ray Stannard Baker, William Allen White, Lincoln Steffens and, of course, S.S. McClure. This is definitely a doorstop of a book, but given Goodwin's writing style, that shouldn't hurt it. This is one that will likely be the top-selling nonfiction title for Christmas, so anyone who has someone to buy for, give this a look-see.
Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg

I can hardly wait until Thursday or Friday when I start reading it! |

RE: The Bully Pulpit
Thanks Rob for the "heads-up." TR is one of my favorite presidents. Throw in the great writing of DKG-and its guaranteed to be outstanding.
