RE: Extra Credit Questions
In 1862 Lincoln appointed someone "Agent for Cherokee Indians". It was another person who begged Lincoln to do so. Who was this person?

Good guess! But the sought-after person wouldn't be amused about your answer!

Was it Lincoln's secretary, John Hay, who we know was not a fan of Mary Lincoln?

Sorry, I have no moon pie to comfort you...BTW "not amused" was a hint.
Hint #2: The person came to Washington in January and afterwards never met the President again.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Hi Roger, clever, but it was not Hay.

Hey, you are too fast. Brilliant, tblunk, it was Herndon. He wanted to woo an 18 years younger woman, Anna Miles. The later Agent was her sister's husband, Charles Chatterton. Lincoln found it funny.

If you like - here's another "Herndon"- question:
How much was Herndon payed a year when he clerked in J. Speed's store?

And it worked! Didn't they get married?

RE: Extra Credit Questions
I'll say Herndon was paid $700.00 dollars a year.
