Help Obtaining Documents
As you well know, I live in Nebraska so it is hard to obtain these precious documents, but where can I obtain transcripts of these:

Trial - 4 major conspirators
Eye Witness Accounts directly following the assassination

If there is any way to send me those, via email, or mail "snail mail" - That's for you Laurie, then we can arrange something!

Thanks!

RE: Help Obtaining Documents
Matt -

Are you familiar with Fold3? They have a LOT of the documents regarding the Lincoln Assassination posted there and they are FREE - including the statements of the conspirators, etc. These are original LAS file documents which are housed in the Archives.... all you need to do is register - and it's free. There is also a paid subscription, but I just use the free one....

Here is the link to the LAS file there -

I also have a large file of newspaper accounts which I'll be glad to share covering the trial, etc.

Again, it was great meeting you this weekend!

RE: Help Obtaining Documents
Matt - I know that expense is a big issue for college students, but there are books in our gift shop covering much of these topics: The Trial, edited by Ed Steers and Tim Good's book on 100 Eyewitness Accounts spring to mind. You might find these on interlibrary loan also.

RE: Help Obtaining Documents
Matt,

I highly recommend these sources:

The Lincoln Assassination: The Evidence edited by Willima Edwards and Edward Steers. Best deal is through the Surratt House giftshop for $99. This is the book format of the Evidence that Betty linked to at Fold3 and makes the website easier to use.

The Lincoln Assassination Trial: The Court Transcripts edited William Edwards. This is the most exant copy of the trial as it occurred word for word. The best free copies of the trial are available here from the Surratt House.

Though it doesn't fall into the categories you mentioned, On the Way to Garrett's Farm by James O. Hall and available from the Surratt House is one of my go-to books when it comes to primary sources regarding the escape in Virginia.

RE: Help Obtaining Documents
For FREE newspaper accounts of the trial and execution and the hunt for JWB you can use the Chronicling America site from the LOC -

http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/

It has a WONDERFUL search engine -

Matt: For images, your have the Library of Congress website. I believe all or almost all images posted on their site is in the public domain and the resolution is pretty good.
