He gave an excellent presentation this past September at a Surratt House luncheon on both his colorization techniques and his 3D work on period photos. He's someone we should have on this forum. I'm going to contact him. Laurie - Thanks so much for your comments about my work. Ed Isaacs mentioned to me about this thread yesterday, but I was not a member of this forum and could not post until today. As someone else mentioned, the original image was done by Mads Madsen, (he prefers to go by the screen name of Zuzah) he is 18 and lives in Denmark. He and I have been friends for several months and he is actually selling stuff on my website. He is a really great guy and even though he has never been to the U.S. has a great interest in the U.S. Civil War. For my images related to the Lincoln assassination you can find them here for 2D and here for stereo cards. As you know, with your help I colorized images of all of the conspirators for the Surratt house and they are now all available on my website, both individually and as a group. So here they are: Mary Surratt: George Atzerodt: Lewis Powell(Payne): David Herold: Samuel Arnold: Dr. Mudd: Edmund Spangler: Michael O'Laughlen, Jr: http://images.historyinfullcolor.com/img...5638-6.jpg And of Course Booth: Here is my collage of all of them: Enjoy! I'm so glad to see you joining this wonderful forum, David. Between your talents and those of Mads, the gang takes on a whole new perspective. Question: The "texture" of Dr. Mudd's face is so different; what accounts for this?

Question: The "texture" of Dr. Mudd's face is so different; what accounts for this? Laurie - The colorizing of Dr. Mudd and J.W. Booth and Mary Surratt was done from prints (all provided by you!) and not from the original negatives (like the others). So the quality of the image is less. Of the three of those Dr. Mudd had the lowest quality of the original image. I would love to have a higher resolution image of him to restore and color. If anyone knows of one, please let me know I would be happy to replace it. David Descendant of: Cpl. Samuel Richardson 70th IN Inf. Pvt. Richard M. Sturm 73rd IL Inf. Pvt. RE: Colourised Photos
Did Joan or Julie scan it and send it to you??? Julie is my computer guru, and her desk scanner can do up to 600 dpi, I think. Joan's is a cheapie. Drop me an e-mail at laurie.verge@pgparks.com to remind me - if you think the 600 would work better for Dr. Mudd.

The scan was at 72 dpi, but I really don't think it was anything Julie did, the original was just not very good. Scanning it at higher resolution will just make the bad areas bigger, not better. This is the original I started with, as you can see, not the best of images, but again, this is usually because of the condition of the original and not the scan. RE: Colourised Photos
It's amazing how much more detail can be seen in the colorized photos. Great job!
