Mary Surratt's personal life
Was Mary Surratt involved romantically with another man after the death of her husband?Laurie has mentioned that Mary Surratt and a minister from her church were the talk of the town and then he got transfered to another church. Any other flings or relationships for Mary?

RE: Mary Surratt's personal life
I think it's very easy for tongues to wag. Mary Surratt was extremely devoted to the church. I think the last thing Mrs. Surratt would do would become romantically involved with a priest. My grandmother was Catholic and the person she was closest to was her priest. She was in an unhappy marriage and after the death of her husband, she probably had an increase in her spiritual needs.

RE: Mary Surratt's personal life
I agree with Jim. I think the rumors were greatly exaggerated, but it didn't help that they kept up a correspondence after his transfer. Most of this occurred in the 1850s, however, before her husband's death.
There are no other indications of her having romantic feelings for any other man (BOOTH INCLUDED). Frankly, by 1860, Mary had her hands full with enough problems without adding an extra-marital affair. |

I agree, Laurie!
I, too think she had her hands full without "man troubles" particularly involving a priest! "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |
