This is such sad news. In addition to his extensive accumulated knowledge and leadership of the Surratt Society, Bill was just an all-around wonderful guy. His kindness, his readiness to share his knowledge, and his dedication to the cause of Lincoln scholarship were unsurpassed. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to Bill's family.
I am so sad. He was a wonderful human, mentor and friend. Mentor as to knowledge, but also as to how to deal with all kinds of people, characters and situations in the most peaceful, diplomatic and constructive way. He treated everyone most respectfully. It was a blessing to have met him and I will miss him a lot. My thoughts are with his wife and his family.
I am so sorry to hear of this. I never met Bill in person, but he was very friendly and greatly informative on all things regarding the assassination in all my interactions on and messages sent through the Forum with him. My deepest sympathies go out to his family.
Very sad news, indeed. Rick Smith introduced me to Bill years ago and I always found him to be very knowledgeable and gentlemanly. He was a very positive force in keeping the Surratt Society in the forefront now that the Maryland State Parks have changed the tavern's direction. RIP Bill.
