Mary Lincoln Strawberry Party
Anita had an operation on her shoulder, and she asked me to post this for her. Anita, I think this was a wonderful idea! Also, kudos to Ken for doing the baking!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"The Peninsula Symphony Association invited members to a Mary Lincoln Strawberry Party fundraiser from 7-9 PM on July 13, 2016. The event was held on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA with views of the Pacific, Point Vincente Light House and Catalina Island.

In addition to strawberries and cream, Mary Lincoln's White Almond Cake was served. Cookies and chocolate dipped strawberries completed the dessert table.

I gave a talk on the history of the Victorian strawberry craze, with the focus on Mary Lincoln who was famous for her strawberry parties in Springfield and throughout Illinois . She continued the tradition when she became First Lady. I also introduced guests to stories about the White Almond Cake and her famous strawberry dress.

The evening was a great success. I want to thank Mary Lincoln and forum members for providing the theme for the fundraiser and the historic information I needed to make it happen. And special thanks to my husband Ken who baked the White Almond Cake due to last minute surgery on my shoulder. He followed the recipe in Donna McCreary's "Lincoln's Table" cookbook."

Great theme - and kudos to talking despite surgery! You look so professionally relaxed and charming, I can well imagine it was a great success!
