Very Sad News - Passing of Karrie Lynn Nash

Dear Bill, Sorry for my delay in contacting you with my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your daughter Karrie. I myself have two daughters very near her age. I am sure she was a wonderful and caring person. She is in God's arms now and will hurt no more. My prayers and blessings go out to you and your family.

We have wonderful memories of her. I spoke of our trip to Springfield. One of the highlights for us was that we attended a lunch in which Lincoln presenter Max Daniels and his wife (as Mary Lincoln) gave a wonderful program. Karrie absolutely loved it. I believe it was at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel.

Bill, I think you once told about attending the opera with her and that she loved opera. Did she have a favorite one?

Eva: oh yes- the opera! This was our very special daddy-daughter event. Her favorite was La Boheme. We saw this more than once. In fact, it was our last opera together. We saw it at the Detroit Opera House in October 2015. She identified with the lead female character of the story (Mimi). Mimi falls in love abd then becames ill and tragically dies. Karrie made no secret that she knew she would be leaving us. We also saw The Magic Flute multiple times. She was quite pleased that Lincoln also saw The Magic Flute. Thank you for mentioning this Eva. And thank you everyone on the Forum for helping me through this most difficult time in my life.

She was so kind and considerate. I have seen this to be true with chronically ill people- they have a spirit of grace about them. Karrie in some ways never grew up- yet at the same time was wise beyond her years. She liked that saying that is attributed to Lincoln about "it's not the years in your life that count but the life in your years." In her short life she gave it all the life she could.

Those who have chronic medical illness seem to go one of two ways, I think. Some become bitter for what life has given them. Others achieve a state where they seem to have risen above it. Yes, they still get angry. Karrie was angry but she also did not let it become her. She always tried to "plant a flower." Heaven only knows how many she inspired along her journey.

I take my hat off whenever I meet or learn of people who put up with severe handicaps (hope this is not the wrong term and you know what I mean - "what life has given them"), humbles down.

It's been a week today since Karrie passed. We are doing fairly well. It's been an emotional roller coaster but all part of the process. I was mentioning to Donna yesterday how Mary Lincoln suffered the loss of so many in her lifetime. Talk about multiple grievings. I want to thank everyone here at the forum again for all of your support, kindness, and encouragement. It will be another busy day for us as we continue to donate most of Karrie's things. Then, it's back to work on Monday!

Thank you so much. As we go through Karrie's boxes of things we are finding hundreds of photographs that we have never seen. It's a wonderful thing to have these heretofore unseen moments of her captured for us.
