Too late! I just wanted to ask: "Who is this lady?":
...but Roger was much faster (see post #153)!
I "came across her" when reading in a book that during the Lincoln-Douglas debates Douglas "was accompanied by his beautiful wife". I was curious as for the beauty of this lady, and found this nice site: http://civilwarwomenblog.com/adele-douglas/
That's one Mrs. Herndon, I'm quite sure the first, Mary, who was considered as one of the beauties of her time, and I believe a relative sketched that.
Superb, Eva! That is a sketch of the second Mrs. Herndon - Anna Miles Herndon. I have never seen an image of the first wife - Mary Maxcy Herndon. And apparently the only image of the second wife is this sketch. Source of sketch - the page opposite p. 258 in Donald's book on Herndon.
Excellent, Roger! Although I was not successful in submitting last Saturday's prize in time, I'll try again - you win my best wishes for your favorite's victory this "sports" weekend.
