Laurie's daughter took a photo of Abraham Lincoln!
Laurie's daughter, Jen, was in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, yesterday. While there she took these photos of Abraham Lincoln!

Unfortunately, that is not my daughter in the photo chatting with Mr. Lincoln. She was busy snapping the picture. After so many years of putting up with me and my devotion to history, she claims to be allergic to anything dealing with Abe, the Civil War, and the assassination.

I thought the same thing! And, didn't Lincoln generally wear boots?

My wife and two boys have that same allergy Laurie! It's a bit of a bummer!

There might be a silver lining, Dan. My grandson loves history (but computer technology even more).

Nice photo, probably the first I've seen of Lincoln in color. LOL!

It's uncanny how much that guy looks like the real A.L.

Wonderful photos!

I just noticed something -- please tell me that is not a wristwatch on his left arm. I'm already a little picky about the white socks and modern shoes. His height and facial features are so good that I'm disappointed in the little clothing glitches.

Laurie, I was wondering about the watch, too. Mary had a wristwatch:

...but I've never heard her husband had one, nor men in those days at all.

Reminds me of Ben Hur...

RE: Laurie's daughter took a photo of Abraham Lincoln!
You're right, Eva, about men not wearing wristwatches in Lincoln's time. That didn't really start, at least in this country, until World War I, when soldiers who were in tanks or airplanes bought leather wristbands that would hold their pocket watches. Later, watch companies began making men's watches to wear on the wrist.

I have a Swiss wristwatch made in the early 1930s for use by pilots, and it's the same size as an old pocket watch, and initially had the front cover on it like many pocket watches had. So that watch company, at least, was converting their old watches even at that late date.

It certainly looks like Old Abe has caught the attention of the young women in the second picture (with red hair) sitting by the pool having her hair brushed

Some may remember this story of the Presidents pocket watch.

Only appropriate that Mr. Lincoln should be in West Virginia- since it became a state during his time in office.
