Betty Crocker, Sara Lee, Aunt Jemima, Little Debbie, Dolly Madison, Mrs. Fields, and Wendy

Sounds like you have the biggies over there. I just read a survey where the most popular U.S. fast-food chain is now Chick-fil-A, which I've never tried. Here are the top ten in that poll:
1. Chick-fil-A
2. Chipotle Mexican Grill
3. Panera Bread
4. Papa John's
5. Pizza Hut
6. Dunkin' Donuts
7. Subway
8. Domino's Pizza
9. Little Caesars
10. Starbucks

Unfortunately for them, McDonald's came in as the least favorite chain, and Burger King wasn't far off.

So it goes . . . In the past ten years or so, I've enjoyed the burgers and fries from a chain called Five Guys, which logo could go on the five dollar bill.

We have a lot of them in our area. Food is good and the employees are always very polite.

I discovered Chick-Fil-A recently when someone gave me some free coupons. I tried one of their chicken sandwiches and now I am well and truly hooked.

Delicious, tender well seasoned breast of fried chicken on a buttered toasted bun. You can get the chicken grilled if you prefer.

It is very yummy, and there's one less than 10 minutes from where I live but the line of cars is almost always around the block.

Roger is correct, the employees are uber polite and the service is great. They are not open on Sundays because the franchise owner is a very observant Christian.

I had my first Five Guys burger last summer when my sister came to visit and it was indeed one heck of a burger. But nothing, nothing, NOTHING can touch In N Out Burgers. It's the ultimate in fast food hamburgers. My sister is obsessed with them because they don't have the chain in Seattle where she lives. They are only in California and Nevada.

I've never been to one that did not have at least 15-20 cars in line. The one at LAX is such chaos...limousines, SUV's cars all over the place even late at night, that they have a patrolman there just to direct the parking lot. It's nuts!!

On a trip to Florida a couple of weeks ago, Patty wanted me to try Chick-fil-A, so we got off 95 and went four miles to one in North Carolina. There had to be 25 cars in line, so I said to heck with it and we got back on the interstate.

I was able to stop at a stand and get some boiled peanuts, though, so it wasn't a total waste of time.

There's a Chick-fil-A about three miles from my house, and I'm addicted to their nuggets and two of their salads - the Cobb Salad and the Market Salad. The first one lacks one necessary ingredient, however, to make it a true Cobb Salad - the slices of avocado, and I know it's because of the price of those popular dietary items.

The politeness of their servers (mainly teenagers) is fantastic, and even though the drive-in lines are long, they move very quickly here.

I should have mentioned that their specialty this time of year is a peach milkshake that is to die for! Chunks of real peaches actually get caught in the straw and make you remove the straw from the drink and suck from the other end until cleared. The calorie count, however, is 800, so don't plan on eating anything else for the rest of the day. Wonder what the history of milkshakes is...

Jim - I love boiled peanuts. Also used to love putting part of a 5-cent bag of salted peanuts into a bottle of Coke.

Although the first usage of the term "Milk Shake" appeared in 1885; it appears that Milk Punch was primarily drank in the 19th Century; mostly in a warmed or hot format with whiskey or bourbon added; plus sugar. It sounds almost the same. Remember our "friends", Weichmann, Mudd and Surratt drank Milk Punches -

Laurie, the peanuts in a bottle of Coke must be a Southern thing, like salt on watermelon. I've mentioned both to folks from up North and received the skunk-eye.

Patty told me she loves loves the half lemonade/half tea drink at Chick-fil-A.

She also loves peaches, so I'll mention the shake to her!

Laurie, it's funny to me that you and I were born 700 miles apart, but had so many things in common as we grew up. I guess below the Mason/Dixon line, there was a distinct way of living in those great days.
