Pike County Historical Society to offer Mary Todd Lincoln dinner
MILFORD — On June 14, Flag Day, the Pike County Historical Society will host its Annual Dinner at the Waterwheel Café from 4 to 7 p.m.
This year the program will include a dinner consisting of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln's favorite recipes, followed by a one act play titled "Mary Todd Lincoln: A Woman on the Edge." The role of Mary Todd will be played by Ruth Randone, actress and historical interpreter. The piece, written by the Society's Director Lori Strelecki, is genuine and heartfelt and encompasses the many thoughts and emotions of a First Lady who endured much tragedy and was misunderstood by the American public. Randone's interpretation will make you laugh and cry, as Mary Todd was a woman of many facets and complexities who carried the burden of our Nation through the Civil War enduring much personal tragedy and the death of a beloved President. - Tickets for the dinner and performance are $50, with proceeds to benefit the Historical Society's Vintage Clothing Collection Stabilization Fund. The collection includes three stage costumes, one or more of which were likely worn on stage the night of President Lincoln's assassination in 1865. For reservations, call 570-296-8126. The Waterwheel Cafe is located at 150 Water St. in Milford. http://pikecountycourier.com/apps/pbcs.d.../150619983 |
