RE: Booth's Mental health
I remember that event with JWB and Badeau. That dangerous situation brought out the best of JWB. It would have been a good arguing point when he met his maker, lol. What was the nature of the scandal?

I would prefer not to start a discussion on that particular subject on this forum. You can find the topic on at least one online source related to Mr. Badeau.

So a gay scandal, I guess, which is what he seemed in her book. In Iran it wouldn't have been possible because the Iranian president said homosexuality doesn't exist in his country. Big Grin

I have a question. Did anyone ever try or plan to poison Lincoln?

Maddie, the only thing I can think of is something I read in Theodore Roscoe's The Web of Conspiracy. Roscoe wrote, "One day (we are told) a woman spy disguised in widow's weeds, heavily veiled, walked into Lincoln's office and tried to poison him with a kiss. Smallpox. The story may be apocryphal, but the President did, in fact, contract a mild case of varioloid."

I have another question. Could it at all be feasible that members of Lincoln's own cabinet might have plotted his death?

Stanton has been the fall guy on that claim for years. I once gave some consideration to Salmon P. Chase, but as badly as he wanted the Presidency, I just could not make a case.

There is a strong case that Taylor was poisoned and a weaker one that poison was tried on Buchanan.

If you count smallpox infestation as poison then yes. Dr. Luke Blackburn tried it with the consent of Jeff Davis. Did Lincoln's son Willie die due to poison or disease. Pick your conspiracy and take your choice.
