RE: Who is this person?
Hint #2: Although I'm 1000% (yes!!!) sure he's well-known to all forum members, he never met any of the Lincolns (not 100% sure about Robert, but AFAIK they didn't meet either).

RE: Who is this person?
Very smart guess, Linda, but, sorry, it's not Townsend either.

Hint #5: He was from Indiana, and his father a German immigrant.

Hint #6: The friendship I mentioned in hint #4 began with a letter this gentleman (when he was a college boy) wrote the other person in request for a Lincoln autograph. Later it resulted in a common Lincoln-related project.

RE: Who is this person?
I'm running out of hints...

Hint #7: The friend and project-partner of this gentleman is one of the lately on this forum most frequently and hotly debated persons.

RE: Who is this person?
I know nothing about this, but I'm just guessing that it is someone who worked with Herndon - Jesse Weik (sp?)?

RE: Who is this person?
Cute prize. Thanks. After the day I have gone through at work, however, I am not thinking of love and poetry right now. My thoughts are more in line with words that this forum will automatically ****!

RE: Who is this person?
It's telling me that page is not available, Gene. But, I did see the word "gopher." Is it a game like WhackaMole? I have actually put human faces on that one and clobbered them over the head - to no avail.

RE: Who is this person?
that's it Laurie. Sorry it worked last night, and I can't get the site any more either.

http://www.gamebrew.com/game/whack-mole/play

This isn't quite as good as the other site. The other game is on page 2 of the google search, "whack the gopher game".
It's http://www.newbedford.k12........

RE: Who is this person?
Eva, I have seen this man before and am quite confident in my answer. It's Dr. Henry who tried to help Mary Lincoln deal with her overwhelming sadness after the assassination.

RE: Who is this person?
Kudos, Roger, that was solved "stante pede"! He was also A. Lincoln's friend and physician in Springfield. You win a supply of 19th century medicine to equip your medicine chest - but first of all my best wishes for good health at every time so that you'll never need this:

- a bag of pounded slippery elm,
- a box of nanny tea (for those who missed Bill's fascinating article: http://abesblogcabin.org/treatment-of-il...ncolns-day ), and
- a crate of lager beer as Lincoln once drank lager beer for some time on the advice of a physician when he had a cold and needed building up.
