RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Learned to type (the correct way) in my junior year of high school in what was titled a Personal Typing class. It was a manual typewriter that rang the bell at the end of each "carriage ride" and then swung back to the left to start again. It has served me very well over the many years and the teacher even taught correct business typing and a smattering of English and spelling. One of the best courses I had throughout my education -- and I retained the knowledge, which is more than I can say for geometry, trig, physics, etc.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Ida Tarbell spent roughly three years in Paris from 1891 to 1894, studying history and biographical writing at the Sorbonne and the College de France. During that time she met a Frenchman who was a great influence in her work.

Leon Marillier, the descendant of Madam Roland who loaned Roland's personal papers to Tarbell for her biography.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
That's a very logical guess, Steve, and Marillier certainly had an effect on Tarbell, but it isn't him.

That's it. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, but I have a terrible cold.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Thanks all. I'm feeling a little better now, but I did have to miss Thanksgiving yesterday. I did get some leftovers though. Hopefully I'll be able to go back to work tomorrow.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Welcome to Tough Tarbell Trivia 2020.
Generally speaking, Ida Tarbell was pleased with most of what she wrote. Yet there was one thing that she always felt it necessary to apologize for. What is that one thing?
