And I don't think that my fellow Americans should "resent" my particular feelings about certain aspects of American history.

I don't "resent" your feelings at all. I am baffled by them. It would be different if this country had made no effort to correct the hypocrisy in the Constitution as it was originally drafted, but it has. I would characterize continuing to resent a fact that cannot be changed, not even by God, as being irrational, at best, and perhaps vengeful.

I have made every effort not to make any personal attacks on anyone. I have done my best to remain as logical as I know how to be. It is to no avail when attempting to understand something that cannot be understood.

My wife and I watched this movie last night via FIOS On-Demand; having a larger view and closed captioning was much better than watching it on a laptop.

My wife was underwhelmed; she thought the film was boring and tedious. She acknowledged the wonderful acting, the skillfully chosen cast and the beautiful art direction and photography.

Since Patty has a strong interest in history, though not specifically in Lincoln, I was disappointed in her reaction. I asked my son, who's a computer illustrator in his late-20s if he'd like to watch it, and he declined. Disappointing.

I then asked a couple of folks here at the office whether they had seen it or intended to see it. One of our graphic designers indicated she had no interest, and our videographer said she never watched "period movies" unless she had to.

So that, too, is disappointing. I'm beginning to suspect that the movie's focus on a political process works against it. Maybe folks right now are turned off by political back-and-forth.

Jim: that is reaction I have come across too. So I have made a point to tell folks who have asked me about the film (and have not yet seen it) that they should pay close attention to Lincoln. I tell them that if they ever wondered what Lincoln acted and looked like-then the movie will show. Many people, have you observed, have little/no interest in the politics of that time. And yes, politicians are at records lows currently in the public mind for favorability.

Just finished watching Spielberg's Lincoln with my mom - she really enjoyed it! She is very interested in politics so was quite impressed with it - plus she loves Sally Field!

Three people have told me this morning (I'm at work)-that they had seen Lincoln. For the first time this past week and were "bored to death." In fact, one of them said she didn't even make it through the movie-she gave up. I'm feeling like I'm in the role of an apologist for the movie. I've been saying to such folks that the storyline may have been boring for them but maybe they could concentrate on the portrayal of Lincoln by Day Lewis-which is masterful.

Bill, due to similar reactions from the great unwashed, I am limiting my recommendations of this film to those who have a strong interest in either politics or history.

I never thought I would say such a thing about a Spielberg movie!!!
