I hate having to wait until the official pub date . . . The house will be open for tours again on Sunday, so call and ask for Kari Wilson. She'll be working the gift shop and should know what is left in stock. If we have some, we take Visa or MC over the phone. 301-868-1121. We are going to ask Terry to sign all copies before he has to leave for another speaking engagement Saturday afternoon. |

RE: 2015 Surratt Conference
I just posted this on my blog, but I wanted to make sure that everyone on this wonderful forum of ours knows that I will be tweeting this weekend's conference on my Twitter account @BoothieBarn. I know not everyone is able to make it from far away so I hope this will give you all a taste of what we're up to.
You can follow my specific tweets about the conference by using the hashtag #Surratt15. |

What a tremendous media idea Dave!
I try to read everything that I can about Lincoln and the Civil War now that I have ALS.I read as many that I could before I had ALS.Now,I feel that I must read more to stay busy and learn something new. |

Can't wait....getting geared up for the reception tomorrow night as well as the Conference on Saturday.....should be loads of Boothie fun as we connect with old and new friends and associates to exchange history theories, notes and ideas - and don't forget new BOOKS!

RE: 2015 Surratt Conference
Amazing conference! Best presentations in the four times I've been to the conference. Definitely served as impetus for me to get back to work on my book.
Met many new Boothies, including quite a number of members of this forum. I was very surprised by the number of books in the works by our members. As with previous conferences, I picked up many bits of information for my book, including more of the story behind Ford's switching the knife purportedly used by Booth. One tidbit: During one renovation of Ford's Theater, Booth's Deringer was removed and placed in the vault at Riggs Bank around the corner, located on the site of the Herndon House where the conspirators met just before the assassination. Booth probably had the Deringer with him at the Herndon so it returned to familiar ground. I probably shouldn't try this because I'm sure to leave someone out and I don't know the username of everyone. These are the forum members I know were present. BettyO Eva Elisabeth ReignetteC Jim Garrett Linda Anderson L Verge Dave Taylor Tom Bogar Lincoln Wonk Rick Smith Houmes Diane T. Putney John Fazio Lindsey Frederick Hatch Bill Richter STS Lincolnite Matthew __ sorry I don't know your username A couple of ladies from PA but I forgot the usernames Wesley Harris The volume of knowledge of this group is nothing short of astounding and I'm proud to know you all! |

RE: 2015 Surratt Conference
Wes, thanks for such a wonderful post!
If Booth had one derringer at the Herndon House and only one at Ford's it makes me wonder if Laurie isn't right in her observation. I am referring to Laurie's observation (made awhile ago in another thread) that Grant was never an intended target of JWB, although so many books seem to indicate otherwise. Is there more evidence that Grant was a target other than O'Laughlen's alleged casing of Stanton's house on the night of the 13th when Grant was there? (plus Booth's harassment of the Grants' carriage as it was going to the train station/unfriendly starring at Julia during lunch) |

I wish that I could have made to this year's conference! I can only pray that my ALS allows me to attend next year's conference.
