RE: Good Bye Old House
I've just finished Walter Cisco's War Crimes Against Southern Civilians. The book is horrific and it seems there's an atrocity detailed in every paragraph. The looting, rape, arson and torture commited during the push through the South is something anyone who thinks that the Union Army was on a Divine mission for freedom really should read.

You have my sympathy for your loss, Laurie. I'm so glad Rick took me to see the old house before this senseless act was committed. It had so much character.

OK - I'm hooked....this one's going on my summer reading list. Wonder if this in part fueled the idea of Booth and Powell's attacks against the government - i.e. Northern atrocities against the South? Any thoughts on this?

This could bring on a good debate under another new thread....

RE: Good Bye Old House
Laurie, I am not in a very good mood this evening to begin with. Reading about the tragic loss of your family home has me in tears. Why, why, why do people do such stupid senseless things as destroy something with historical significance that was also a beloved family home for generations??

I am so sad to hear this I do not know what else to say.

Laurie, just read about the house and all I can say is that I'm sorry it happened.

Sad and undeserved ending, Laurie, but the memories are still yours. Thanks for sharing with us.
