That is very exciting news. This is part of the reason why the study of history is not static even though it is past. New discoveries are always popping up.

The article notes that Richard Sloan is convinced the pictures show the funeral scenes: "There's no doubt about it."

I'm inclined to agree with Richard, and he has certainly done an in-depth study of Lincoln's funeral procession through NYC. He made an excellent presentation on this several years ago at a Surratt conference.

I, too think that this is indeed what it seems to be. Behind the "black blur" of the catafalque one sees (at least I do) the legs of a group of marching men. Very, very well could be. Fantastic!

I just had the pleasure of putting Barry Cauchon, Richard Sloan, and Michael Ruane together to analyze what we believe might be a photo of Lincoln's funeral cortege in NYC. Michael Ruane is the Washington Post reporter who broke the story of Mr. Taylor's discovery and has also worked with Surratt House and several Society members on Lincoln assassination stories in the past; Richard is an authority on the Lincoln funeral in NYC; and Barry, we know, can work wonders with high resolution photo enlargement.
