RE: Six More Weeks of Winter
OK - we have that here in Maryland a lot - we just call it a dirty word that starts with "s." We were promised 60-degree weather and sunshine today. It's gray, cloudy, and chilly. I actually saw daffodils in bloom yesterday and heard spring peepers, so I guess there's still hope.

Funny, I thought it was that because the German word is quite similar: Graupel.

RE: Six More Weeks of Winter
I wrote to Roger, Betty, Linda, Eva, and Joe that I cut through a development every morning on my way to work. All the houses have been built on the former plantation of Bennett Gwynn, one of the folks who testified in Mrs. Surratt's defense in 1865. There are actually many clumps of daffodils already in bloom under the protection of some trees where the old house had been.

The spring peepers are peeping, so I am confident that spring is on its way. Of course, they are predicting a wintry mix for the D.C. area this coming Tuesday.

I love the angle that Eva used to take the photo of the Lincoln Memorial in the snow. It gives a good sense of the size and magnitude of this magnificent temple. At the recent Surratt conference, when Barry Cauchon "interviewed" the granddaughter of the stone mason who did the frieze and the textual engraving, he included some period photos that also gave a good idea of the scope.
