Post Mortem Tintype Photograph of Abraham Lincoln??
Good morning everyone.. I think this could be Abraham Lincoln and might be a Post Mortem photograph of him at that?Look closely, he has the pimple on the left, the exact same crows feet lines on the eyes and his shoulders are exact ,and I did find a few photographs where he was wearing that huge tie as well
What do you guys and gals think? This might get good !! |

Dave, I do not know who this person is, but this is not a post-mortem photo of Abraham Lincoln. There are many books on Lincoln photographs, and although there are some errors, two I would suggest (in case you do not have them) are Lincoln in Photographs: An Album of Every Known Pose by Charles Hamilton and Lloyd Ostendorf and Lincoln's Photographs: A Complete Album by Lloyd Ostendorf.

IMO, it's close, but the hair does not look coarse enough, the dark circles under the eyes aren't there, the face is not thin enough. The face just doesn't show the deep signs of stress that so many of Lincoln's photo's show.
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

Dave, I should add that I have seen literally hundreds of photos similar to yours. I have received them through my website since 1996. Lots of folks write and say, "Look what we found in grandma's attic." Unfortunately, in almost all cases, I have to write back and tell them they have not found a previously undiscovered photo of Abraham Lincoln. In all there are about 130 known photographs of Lincoln; roughly 40 are beardless and 90 with a beard. That's it, unless new discoveries are made in the future.

RE: Post Mortem Tintype Photograph of Abraham Lincoln??
There seems to be a growing trend to label any photo of a lean-faced gentleman with the traditional beard and hair style of the mid-1800s as a picture of Abraham Lincoln. This is such a man. And no matter who it is/was, it's 99% certain that it was not taken in death.
After decades of exhibiting true post-mortems of infants to mothers with "sleeping" babies in their arms, to elderly men and women at Surratt House, I have yet to see anyone in a totally upright position and with their eyes open. This gentleman does have nice, blue eyes, however (or is blind). |

I don't know Laurie, but I'd lay odds he's probably dead now

Herr are almost all known photographies of Abraham Lincoln. If you click on the photos, you'll see where and by whom they were taken and further info.
http://picasaweb.google.com/m/viewer#alb...2513889201 What I'm not sure about - is photo #81 on the site above a very enlarged detail of this Gardner photo, http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/natio...h/2854811/ ...or is it a different one? (Then it's missing in the picture gallery.) |

Not a photograph of Abraham Lincoln! I think an interesting journal article would be one featuring the various photographs purported to be of AL -in life or in death.

Bill I think that would be super cool I keep hearing that back then that so many men wanted to look like Abraham Lincoln right??? So why not have a contest so to say or something similar to see who has the best Abraham Lincoln look alike photograph or something like that..now that would be special and definatly a ton of fun! |

I don't think his pupils would be that constricted if he were dead. Dead eyes don't look like that.
