The Leviathan is fantastic. I have had the opportunity to ride the train for a fundraiser last April (I know I posted about that trip in another thread) and Gary, you are right, it is incredible. I am looking forward to seeing it again in Springfield. Hopefully I can find a way to get a video of it under steam pulling the Lincoln funeral car.

As a schoolgirl growing up in Ohio, I never realized that President Lincoln's body was brought to the Statehouse in Columbus on it's way back to Springfield.

Lincoln funeral train replica now in Spencer, North Carolina

The Lincoln Funeral Train replica made a stop at Spencer, NC (near Salisbury) today, along with the Leviathan #63 Locomotive. Mary Todd Lincoln was also there (I didn't catch the reenactor's name, but she is a collateral descendant of Mary and looked very much like her).

Here are some exterior and interior shots of the train. It has a parlor, a sleeping area, and the room where the casket was kept.

I thought this was a marvelous re-creation of the funeral train. Do see it if you get the opportunity!

"Attached are pics of the Abraham Lincoln Funeral Train and Lincoln Statue at Troy, OH I took on Friday, September 11. I had the presence of mind to take Scott T’s book off of my shelves and he signed it for me. He lives here and was the guide through car. Gene and Joy Cook were here, too."

I tried to find some information on the statue and found this in the Dayton Daily News:

"This year’s exhibit, centered on a monumental 30-foot, 40,000 pound bronze sculpture featuring President Abraham Lincoln is expected to be even bigger, offering “a huge opportunity for Troy,” said Katherine Hayes, executive director of the Troy Main Street downtown advocacy organization.

The sculpture, “Return Visit” by Seward Johnson, is on loan from the Seward Johnson Atelier Inc. and brought to town by a Troy Foundation grant. Johnson’s life-size bronze sculptures of people in every day activities have dotted the downtown in earlier exhibits."

The figure with Lincoln represents a contemporary "common man."

Thanks for sharing - sounds like you guys had a great day! And thanks, Roger, for the additional info - so this is the artist's first XXL - statue?! I've never seen a bronze statue painted (I believe). How does it look in reality, Gene and Joe?

Eva, at first I didn't care for it. The more I looked at it, and saw all the kids and people posing for pictures under it, the more I liked it. It's well done, seeing the people around it helps you visualize how big it is.
