Lincoln Memorial Events
Yesterday the Lincoln Memorial became the chosen place for the events marking tribute to Dr. King's speech 50 years ago (as the Lincoln Memorial was chosen then). To me, the giant figure of the sitting Lincoln is symbolic for the great truths he espoused and ultimately died for. His presence in the form of the statue says so much, despite of or in addition to what events may be occurring on the platform of the building. Was Lincoln mentioned by any of the speakers yesterday? I confess I didn't hear any of them. I saw some clips, that's all. Over the years since the Memorial was built, many events have taken place there. In all, Lincoln abides...

Bill,

Another time when the Lincoln Memorial served as a great venue for an event was when The D.A.R. would not allow the great contralto Marian Anderson to sing at Constitution Hall (the D.A.R. venue) and Eleanor Roosevelt arranged for the concert to occur on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Again, Lincoln abides....

RE: Lincoln Memorial Events
Nice recollection Joe. Ironic that it occurred under the watchful eyes of the Lincoln statue...
