I wanna go back to Dixie
In case you don't know this

http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=I7CJovhhV...7CJovhhVq8

I can yet spot the southern tomatoes being thrown in my direction.
It's funny Tom Lehrer really was a teacher as his family name says.

I can't pull up that link. Has someone sabotaged it so that I can't see it and get mad??? Eva, I thought we were friends -- you were going to be my next project of Southernizing...

RE: I wanna go back to Dixie
It's suppose to be a satire of this song "Gowin back to Dixie"

Here's the Mitch Miller version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGPlPw7GbPU

Don't like the word "satire." Am I going to get mad at some Yankees again?????

RE: I wanna go back to Dixie
Eva sent it directly to me via e-mail to make sure that I was properly perturbed! I want y'all to know that I laughed a lot. I am now in the process of writing a Yankee version.

I also told Eva that she can come out of hiding in the ditch; we're still friends. She's just an innocent European. Besides, anyone as knowledgeable about American history and anyone who writes as expertly as she, you just can't stay mad at.

Thanks, Laurie. (It's not too often that I'm at a loss of words.) Well, if we be friends, Robin shall restore amends. So, as to the Southernization, would this be a suitable practice for beginners:

RE: I wanna go back to Dixie
I love it, Eva! Start today. I've used #7 quite a bit in my life, btw. One slight problem, however. I prefer the Southern belle to get instruction from either of the Carolinas or Georgia. Not sure I trust Arkansas - sorry, guys, if I offend anyone...

P.S. Also ignore the reference to using a girdle. Those came off in the 70s right along with the bras!

RE: I wanna go back to Dixie
Southern Belles don't talk about such things.

Mercy me, it's getting a bit warm in here. (where's my fan?)

RE: I wanna go back to Dixie
Did I cause you to have the vapors, Gene?

I guess I should have warned you that I tend to talk more like Belle Watley than Melanie Wilkes...

For those of you who subscribe to the Surratt Courier, the August issue (which went in the mail today) has a nice article on Mint Juleps. Believe it or not, there is a tie-in to the Civil War in Southern Maryland and the Surratts, so read all the way to the end.

Right now, however, it is 103 in Southern Maryland. I'm going to take a cool shower and fix a wine cooler for dinner. I would fix sweet tea, but it's too darn hot to turn on a stove.

P.S. to Gene - There will be no girdles and bras. The ladies of the forum will understand.

RE: I wanna go back to Dixie
There's still the Scarlett O'Hara solution (for #7): "I'll think about that tomorrow."
So, instead of tidying up my 1 bedroom plantation which I planned doing tomorrow I'll enjoy some porchtime leisure on my balcony (or at the beach).
