RE: Surratt Conference Update
Well, our conference registration has gone over last year's record. We're now at 124, with over twenty states (as far away as Washington State, California, and Hawaii!) represented plus Washington, D.C., Canada, and Germany. There are also about 5-6 other people that I know are coming, but have not yet registered. Our off-site bus tours on Friday and Sunday have been filled for several weeks and have waiting lists. Now, if the thermometer will just cooperate and reach the 60-degree mark for that weekend, I will be one happy museum director!

RE: Surratt Conference Update
We need to hike that Friday, March 14, one up about ten degrees. That's the day of the D.C. bus tour, and the breezes coming in off the river at Ft. McNair will make it seem colder.

RE: Surratt Conference Update
For those of you attending the conference, you will have the opportunity to meet four of the great-grandchildren of Dr. Mudd and a great-great-great grandchild. One of the great-grandchildren is our own Bob Summers from this forum. Bob will be there in the afternoon to sign his new book, The Assassin's Doctor, during our Authors' Hour.

RE: Surratt Conference Update
One week to go, and we have our largest attendance yet -- we have exceeded last year's 119 and are up to 131, plus more that come just for the banquet on Saturday night. Both bus tours have been filled for weeks and have waiting lists. So far, the extended forecast indicates that there may be a hint of spring in Southern Maryland by conference time, also.

Speaking of weather: I reached the stunning conclusion today that I can be extremely happy as long as the temperature is 20 degrees with no wind blowing. The weather here during the last two months has not lived up to my expectations. I don't even want to think what it has been like for those of you in the Midwest and New England.
