Yes, this is all very interesting, Betty. Like yourself, this is the first I have heard of this. This did remind me of something I read some time back about Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and its involvement with Europe-I looked again and here is what I found: "The Emancipation Proclamation outraged white Southerns who envisioned a race war, angered some Northern Democrats, energized anti-slavery forces, and undermined forces in Europe that wanted to intervene to help the Confederacy." Not sure if everyone has heard this already; it was new to me months back when I first found it, so I thought I would share it since Betty's post reminded me of it. I really enjoyed your post, Betty!
