On p. 129 of Reck's book the author writes:

"Willed to the White House by (Carl) Bersch's granddaughter, Mrs. Gerda Vey, Borne by Loving Hands was turned over to the National Park Service in 1978 and is now displayed at Ford's Theatre National Historic Site. It should be noted that Bersch in his letter agreed with many of those quoted earlier - that Lincoln was being carried on an improvised stretcher. His painting also testifies to this observation."
