I see that I have already contributed to the discussion at the linked page. But here is the entire entry for "Address Delivered at the Dedication of the Cemetery at Gettysburg" in Collected Works: Volume VII, pages 18-23.

I believe "cannot" and "can not" have both been acceptable forms for a long time, but "cannot" has become more common in modern times.

I was taught "cannot" is for informal use only.
