A Rebel "Rosie the Riveter"?!
This was news to me -- Mrs. General James Longstreet (Helen Dortch Longstreet) worked at Atlanta's Bell Aircraft Plant during WWII. She assisted the US war effort working as a Riveter at the plant. "The best in her class" as she reported....
She was 34 years old when she married the then-widowed General who was 76. Mrs. Longstreet would go on to uphold her husband's name, and was a real "suffergette" working as a reporter, writer, editor, post office mistress, librarian and politician. She also enjoyed driving her own car at age 80. She died in 1962 at the ripe old age of 99.... http://www.historybyzim.com "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P.
