RE: Fords Theatre today
I sent it, maybe it will work!
I am way too excited for sleep, so I thought I write up a little from last night and this morning for all those that could not come. Sorry for the long post and maybe mistakes but I have been awake for 36 hours now. I meet up with David George at the early evening and the area around Fords was more crowded than usually, but by no means packed yet. We went to see the Commemoration and while leaving the theatre, I pulle away the curtain at the dress circle and saw the thousands of people on the street. That was an incredible goosebumb moment! The Commemoration itself was worth the trip! It was beautifully done, no cheap shocker moments but very solemn remembrance with lots of wonderful music, poetry and many, many Lincoln quotes. A great surprise to the audience was Colin Powell who did the introductions. At around 10:15, Judy Collins took the stage and sang "Beautiful Dreamer" and then "Amazing Graze". She had all of audience join in and it went on for quite a while. (here is a link to some audio that should not exist because it was not allowed to record, but alas, I guess it found its way to the internte: http://allthingslincoln.tumblr.com/post/...-i-wanted) The band inside started then to play "Old Hundreth" and when they were half way through they stopped and the band outside of Fords picked it up. The audience then made their way outside to join all the people that were already waiting. The staff at Fords had given candles out and stepping through the door was a breathtaking experience. They really did an amazing job! In case of emergency, Lincoln and children first. |
