RE: "Band of Conspirtors" - Lecture on Assassination Novel
David O. Stewart is a wonderful speaker. He is entertaining, informative and has a wonderful delivery. But one would expect that of a defense lawyer. His interest in the assassination began with research for his book on the impeachment of Andrew Johnson and his interest in John Bingham. The result is his recently released novel on the assassination, The Lincoln Deception.

Supposedly Bingham, on his deathbed, claimed that Mary Surratt had confessed to him while incarcerated that there were implications involved which could "destroy the Union" (according to Stewart) - seems I had heard of this before.....don't know the validity of the claim.

Bingham died in 1902, never divulged this confession and carried Mary's secret to his grave. Stewart therefore thought that he'd write a novel around this purported "Secret" and invent his own version of what Mary might have told Bingham -
